Architecture and History Exhibition

Fiber and multimedia artist, Susan Lenz, returns to Waterworks Visual Art Center. Lenz's exhibit, In Stitches, features large scale circular fiber pieces, of varying sizes, when hung, appear as if in conversation with one another. Gallery hours are Monday - Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m and Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

A Slice of History: Commemorating the LIFE and TIMES of Ben Martin
Waterworks Visual Arts Center
Details:

A retrospective of iconic images of world leaders, pop icons, and others, titled, A Slice of History: Commemorating the LIFE and TIMES of Ben Martin by renowned North Carolina TIME magazine photojournalist, Ben Martin, who passed away in February, will tie in with this year’s emphasis on regional history and its links to national and international events. At age 26, Martin was hired as TIME Magazine’s first staff photographer. His 33 year career at the magazine included ground breaking coverage of both national and international events, including coverage of the Selma to Montgomery Civil Rights March and Martin Luther King Jr., President John F. Kennedy’s funeral, and post WWII Hiroshima. A companion book will be published and available for purchase.

Gallery hours are Monday - Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m and Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

Historic Salisbury Trolley Tour
Rowan County Visitors Center
Details:

Take a ride through Historic Downtown Salisbury and let our narrators guide you by historic sites such as the original Cheerwine building, the Salisbury National Cemetery and the site of the only prison in North Carolina during the Civil War. You will also see film locations of popular movies and TV shows and hear a ghost story or two. Discover shopping, restaurants, theaters and plenty of public art. Enjoy learning about the city's past and how it has influenced the present on a F&M Bank Trolley every Saturday from April - October. This one hour tour begins at 11 a.m. at the Rowan County Visitors Center.

Enjoy more of Salisbury with a combination ticket! The ticket includes admission into three additional locations; the Dr. Josephus Hall House, Old Stone House and Rowan Museum, and $2 off your purchase at Morgan Ridge Railwalk Brewery & Eatery and New Sarum Brewing Company.

Historic Salisbury Trolley Tour tickets are $8 for adults, $5 for children ages 5-10 and free for children under 5.

Historic Salisbury Combination tickets are $16 for adults, $11 for children ages 5-10 and free for children under 5.

How the West Was Won: Trains and the Transformation of Western NC
North Carolina Transportation Museum
Details:

"How the West Was Won: Trains and the Transformation of Western NC" tells the story of the coming of the railroads after the Civil War and the impact they had on the life, economy, culture, folklore, music and landscape of the mountains. Using videos, narratives, historic photos and artifacts, visitors can view the history of rail in Western NC and learn about the high drama in construction, the dangers of building a railroad grade and the despair that came with the loss of so many lives on the railroad. The NC Transportation Museum is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Tuesday through Saturday, from noon to 5 p.m. on Sunday and closed on Monday.

Salisbury Sculpture Show: Discover What's Inside
